Exhibition: "Architecture History at Fingertips - Kaohsiung Station"
Curated by Pace Wu of Bonstay Concept.co, this exhibition transforms the tactile into the visual through French-developed tactile paintings designed for the visually impaired. Featuring the architectural history of the Panthéon in Paris, the exhibition is curated by Pace Wu of Fine Miner and co-developed by Dr. Ho Shih-Yun, who previously executed audio-visual guides for the National Palace Museum. This exhibition aims to promote artistic equality. The main visual is crafted by Sea Flow Design, using text that is readable but challenging to understand, immersing general audiences in the environment and challenges faced by the visually impaired right from the graphic design.
The exhibition invites visitors to "touch" the exhibits with their fingers, transforming tactile sensations into mental visuals and combining them with audio descriptions to perceive and understand the Panthéon in Paris. The guide will use a "tactile reading map" combined with a "point-reading pen," allowing the visually impaired to conduct self-guided tours. True equality can only be achieved in an environment that is friendly enough for self-reliance.
The exhibition uses origami craftsmanship to create a darkroom, simulating a viewing environment where sighted visitors are deprived of their vision. Audiences will use their fingertips instead of their eyes to construct the shape of the Panthéon and understand how its architecture, art, and history dialogue with space and time. The Carcassonne Castle series will be presented in a visual viewing format as a control group. The curatorial approach uses spatial design to replace all spatial positioning with tactile senses.
The Panthéon in Paris, more than any other building, bears the imprint of French history. The exhibition will introduce the architectural features of the Panthéon, designed by Soufflot in the 18th century, highlighting the innovative architectural solutions, history, and artworks. Exhibits will showcase the Panthéon's exterior (plan/elevation/section), detailing its dimensions and structure. The rich carvings and murals decorating the exterior and interior of the building will also be featured. The exhibition includes an introduction to the underground crypt, now the resting place of the great figures of the Republic, presenting its space and history through tactile paintings. The climax of the exhibition is the Foucault pendulum, which was first used in the Panthéon to demonstrate the Earth's rotation. Today, the Panthéon is a venue for official ceremonies and sanctification rituals in France, standing as a historical record of Paris. Join us on an imaginary journey through the Panthéon in Paris.
